Finished. This is a 1 metre x 1 metre watercolour. I really needed to do all those things that we tell our students to do, make pencil studies, trial paper types (this was a giant sheet of watercolour paper from Atlantis) make colour studies, get ‘real life’ examples for direct observational studies, take photos, plan and…. Start.

Oil on canvas, painted ‘en plein air’ on Whitstable beach just before a, storm. I enjoyed the very different way I had to paint, not much underpainting and completed rapidly before the storm. The local colours also took me into a palette that I don’t usually use and which I liked a lot.

Watercolour, painted on Saunders Waterford so it’s mounted to show the deckle edges. Simple black frame as customer wanted.

Although this is a bit sad, Nucleus Arts are trying to find another week for me. Finishing work so there’s enough time for it to dry before the exhibition @halpernpopgallery Rochester on November 4th. I’ve been adding details to the larger canvas and developing the mini.
